What
kind of residential Dutch course do I need ?
This is not an easy question. Remember Dutch belongs to the same language
group as English. Basic structure although different are not bewildering.

immersion, available teachers, native speakers, individual lessons

What would be a best length of stay ?
How many weeks to you need to be fluent?
You can choose 1, 2,
3 or 4 weeks of intensive full immersion Dutch language courses with native
speakers :
-
one week
Dutch course : Teaches you
basics. After a standard week (6 lessons a day) you should be able to talk every
day Dutch. Of course you won't have an active knowledge of the almost 1500 basic
words vocabulary after this week. But a passive knowledge, definitely yes. To
develop your skill you'll only have to organize talking Dutch situations with
friends or colleagues you'll ask to correct you.
If you merely seek to brush up your knowledge of Dutch, this is the ideal
length
of language training too.
-
two weeks
Dutch course :
If you studied Dutch at school or if you have some basic knowledge this might be
the appropriate Dutch training for you. 2 weeks of intensive individual living
Dutch lessons should suffice to gain confidence and enable you to communicate in
Dutch. However one week after the other is less fruitful as a 4 weeks break
between them. Of course you should be able to practice during those four weeks.
-
three weeks of
Dutch language training :
If you're not a novice a 3 weeks stay will enable you to achieve ambitious
goals. At the end of 3 weeks full immersion Dutch training you should be able
to effectively negotiate in Dutch.
-
four weeks
Dutch course :
If you're an absolute
beginner we suggest you spread 3 or 4 weeks over 3 or 4 months. With the every
day practice in between this should suffice to become really fluent in
Dutch. If you do need to learn Dutch within a month or so 4 ongoing weeks is of
course possible.
